Sherry Davis

Sherry Davis, a mixed media artist based in New York City and the North Fork of Long Island, delves into the anthropocenic age with her Dark Matter series. Her work reimagines a dystopian future through upcycled materials, infused with a touch of humor and playfulness. Drawing from her upbringing in Toledo, Ohio, Davis blends her family's farming ethos with needlework skills passed down through generations, evident in her transformative pieces.

Davis holds a BFA from Kent State University, a Master's degree from Brooklyn College and attended at The Art Students League of New York. She has studied with numerous esteemed artists, including Sheila Hicks, Barbara Eckhardt, and Arline Fisch. Her art has been showcased at prestigious galleries and institutions, including the Hudson Valley Museum of Contemporary Art and the Atlantic Gallery in Chelsea. Notably, she has received a grant from the New York State Council on the Arts for a forthcoming site-specific artwork and photography exhibit in 2024.

Combining traditional Japanese art influences with fiber art techniques, Davis' work offers a unique perspective on sustainability and growth. Her explorations into environmental anxiety are balanced with an optimistic outlook, questioning the darker narratives while dancing to an "apocalypso" beat.

Through her art, Davis continues to challenge perceptions and inspire contemplation about the future of our planet and society, solidifying her position as a thought-provoking artist in the contemporary art scene.
